Depending on your nationality and present academic or professional situation, you can choose among three different programmes at five different levels.

Mobility levels

Erasmus Mundus - Al Idrisi II scholarships cover the following five levels of mobility:

  • Undergraduate: Students enrolled in undergraduate programmes that have successfully completed at least one year of studies.
  • Doctorate: Students or young researchers who have completed a master's programme or equivalent and hold a degree granting access to doctoral studies at their home university, or are currently enrolled in a doctoral programme.
  • Post-doctorate: Researchers holding a doctoral degree.
  • Staff: Academic and administrative staff comprises lectures, researchers and university administrators (such as personnel in charge of cooperation offices, etc.).

Programme types

The Erasmus Mundus - Al Idrisi II scholarship scheme considers three different programmes:

  • Credit transfer programme
    • Undergraduate students will spend up to one academic year at the host university and will follow courses and/or work on a bachelor or master thesis as specified in a learning and recognition agreement. This agreement will have to be agreed on and signed by the student and the home and host universities prior to the departure of the grantee. The grantee will remain enrolled at the home university during the study period abroad. The host university will provide the grantee with a transcript of records confirming that the program of study has been completed listing the student's results. The study period abroad will be fully recognized by the home university according to the learning and recognition agreement.
  • Short stay programme
    • Doctoral candidates will mainly perform research and receive specialized training at the host university. Regarding their status as doctoral candidate, the following cases can be distinguished:
      • Doctorate at the home institution: The student is registered as a regular doctoral candidate at the home institution and performs a short stay for research at the host institution. The doctoral degree will be issued by the home university.
      • Doctorate at the host institution: The student registers as regular doctoral candidate in a doctoral programme at the host university and completes the initial phase of research there. After the end of the mobility period, the student returns to the home institution or the previous job and finishes the doctoral thesis with distance tutoring. The student obtains the doctoral degree from the host institution.
      • Cotutelle - Doctorate at host and home institution: The student registers simultaneously in doctoral programmes at the host and home institutions and follows doctoral courses (where applicable) and performs research during at least one period at each institution. The doctoral candidate will prepare a PhD thesis with two supervisors, one from each institution, and obtain a doctoral degree from both institutions. The Erasmus Mundus - Al Idrisi II scholarship will only cover the stay abroad.
      • In any case, a detailed working plan must be submitted together with the application. At the end of the period abroad, the grantees will have to provide a report specifying the outcomes of the work performed. This document must be signed by the head of department or the corresponding academic or administrative unit. The short stay abroad has to be an integral part of the grantee’s doctoral program or career development plan.
    • Post-doctoral fellows refer to researchers of any age holding a doctoral degree. They will mainly perform research and/or be involved in specialized training activities at the host university.
    • Short stays for academic and administrative staff are open to research, teaching, specialized training and activities related to institutional cooperation.
